Another attempted ATM theft in the region has left a building with substantial damage.

RCMP in Brooks report in a monthly summary of major activity that officers responded to an alarm at Secure Energy on Railway Avenue in that city on Dec. 7 at about 2 a.m.

They found extensive damage after thieves attempted to make off with an automatic cash machine. They determined that a vehicle left the scene travelling westbound but no suspects have been identified.

Officers also dealt with an alleged aggravated assault on Dec. 21 when they found two males who were known to each other fighting. One man lost four teeth as a result of the altercation and the other has been charged.

Two young teenage girls were also pepper-sprayed during an argument with an 18-year-old female at a gas station in the city. The unnamed women has been charged with two counts of assault.

In a year-end report, expected to be presented to Brooks city council this month, RCMP figures show a near 21 per cent increase in personal crime reports in the city in 2023, compared to 2022, equating to 77 more offences.

There was a 7 per cent drop in property crime charges in the same time frame.

More break and enters were responsible for the increase, offset by fewer vehicle thefts.
