A new family owned and run discount store is now open in downtown Redcliff.
Redcliff Dollar Save opened its doors Dec. 30 along Broadway Avenue and First Street SW.
The discount store offers a variety of household items, snacks, toiletries and stationary supplies.
Owner Cris Narvacan told the News she was thrilled to see a small lineup outside her door on opening day.
“You can tell the excitement in my voice and the excitement from my face,” says Narvacan. “It’s overwhelming because (there has been) a lot of positive response and positive words. Redcliff is a nice community.”
Redcliff Dollar Save is stocked with common items you could find in any dollar or discount store like cleaning products, kitchen and household items, snacks and office supplies.
Narvacan saw a need for a discount store in Redcliff and says her Broadway Avenue location provides the community easy access to common household items.
“And I found this place and it’s like, that’s the perfect place, on the corner on busy main streets.”
Redcliff Dollar Save customer Susan agrees the community is in need of a discount and tells the News she expects the store to become a success.
“It’s about time somebody caught on because we have nothing north of the river. So if we wanted to go to a dollar store we had to always go right to the other end of Medicine Hat; they’re going to make a killing here,” says Susan.
Narvacan’s family moved to Redcliff from the Philippines 10 years ago and has since made the small Alberta community their home.
“(Everyone) helps each other, that’s why I love to live here.”
Her three children have since grown up and have been working hard to help their mom pursue her dream of becoming a business owner.
“My daughter is the one managing the marketing and the Facebook and commenting and replying to a lot of questions, and my husband of course he’s the handyman he loves it. He helps me with setting up the store.”
Her two sons help with running the cash register and connecting with suppliers to order inventory.
Narvacan says one of the benefits of owning her own discount store is her ability to stock the items her shoppers want and says she welcomes any suggestions from her customers.
“When people come I always remind them we’re bringing more stuff. But if you need anything let me know and I’ll order it for you and we’ll bring it in.”
Redcliff Dollar Save is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
