Pair arrested, charged over stolen property

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on December 8, 2023.

The Medicine Hat Police Service made two arrests Thursday in connection to stolen property.

A Medicine Hat mana and woman have been charged with several offences after an investigation from Medicine Hat’s ALERT regional property crime unit.

Police say the investigation began in early November, and on Nov. 21 and 22, with help from MHPS, a stolen vehicle was discovered parked in the southwest area of Medicine Hat.

Justin Castor, 24, was observed operating the stolen vehicle and was apprehended. A short time later, 21-year-old Teegan Austin was located and arrested for the possession of stolen property.

As a result of those arrests, police say a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 300 block of Fourth Street NW, resulting in the seizure of items associated to numerous break-ins and thefts in Medicine Hat, Cypress County and the Elkwater area.

Some of those investigations are still ongoing and police are making the effort to return the stolen property to rightful owners.

The following items were recovered because of this investigation: a 2006 Ram 3500 truck, custom cowboy chaps, rope and western gear, multiple pieces of stolen identification, assorted tools and a rural crime watch road sign.

Castor has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and flight from police.

Austin was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, four counts of possessing identity documents and a fail to comply with release order.

Following a judicial interim release hearing, Castor was held in custody and Austin was released subject to conditions. Both are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
