Arrest made four months following Brooks homicide

An arrest has been made in a July homicide in Brooks, the RCMP in that city announced Monday.

Tesfahiwot Haile, 41, was found in life-threatening condition in an apartment complex on July 23, and died in hospital three days later.

On Nov. 23, the RCMP Major Crimes Unit in conjunction with members of the Brooks detachment arrested Abune Getahun, 43, of Brooks, and charged him with second-degree murder.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice at Brooks on Wednesday. No other suspects are being sought.

Drug raid in Sask.

RCMP in Kindersley say an investigation into a “rash of rural crime” in western Saskatchewan has ended with 216 grams of meth and three firearms seized from a home in Major, Sask.

Willis William Kostiuk, 41, is in custody charged with 23 drug offences and possessing a firearm while prohibited. His next court date is set for Wednesday in Kindersley Provincial Court.

“The Kindersley RCMP is pleased to make an arrest in relation to a recent rash of rural thefts and break and enters,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin Peterson in a release.

Major, Sask. is located about halfway between Kerrobert and the Alberta provincial boundary.
