The City of Medicine Hat will hold its annual Remembrance Day service Saturday.

The city and the Esplanade will host the service honouring veterans with a parade to the Cenotaph and Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Doors open at the Esplanade at 8:30 a.m. with the service in the main theatre scheduled for 9:15 a.m. The parade procession will leave the Esplanade at 10:30 a.m. for the service and two minutes of silence to be held at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m.

Due to the parade and ceremony, First Street SE from Fourth Avenue to N. Railway Street, including Finlay Bridge, will be closed starting at 8:30 a.m. until the ceremony concludes.

MHPS and the city remind motorists to obey all posted signs and take extra caution while driving due to an increase in pedestrian traffic.

The city also announced what services will be open and available on Saturday and Monday.

On Saturday, Crestwood Recreation Centre, the landfill (Waste Management Facility) and the Esplanade (besides the ceremony) will be closed and Medicine Hat Transit will not be operating. The Big Marble Go Centre will operate on modified hours (noon to 5 p.m.) and the Co-op Place box office will open at noon ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers game that night against the Wenatchee Wild.

On Monday, transit will operate and the landfill will be open but city hall, parks and rec office and the Co-op Place box office will be closed. There will also be no garbage or recycling collection.
