The Medicine Hat Jr. High Athletic Association held its girls and boys A volleyball playoffs this week.
On the girls’ side, St. Mary’s School was the host of the girls A playoffs and earned the right to host after going 23-5 in the regular season, finishing first in the standings. However it was the third seed team from Notre Dame who took the championship game 2-1 (23-25, 28-26, 15-8).
It was inevitable both St. Mary’s and Notre Dame would make the finals as they have done so in almost every tournament they played in this year.
Both teams will travel to the South Zone Jr High 4J girls volleyball championships at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute this weekend.
The bronze medal game went to the fifth seed Crescent Heights Vikings. The Vikings beat the Wilson Royals easily in two sets then gave the Colts a scare, beating them 25-7 in the first set. The Colts came back to win the next two sets 25-20, 15-11.
In the bronze medal game, the Vikings went up against the second seed Seven Persons Wolfpack and won in three sets (25-18, 21-25, 15-12).
On the boys side, Seven Persons hosted seven boys teams.
The undefeated Wolfpack team defeated the second seed Notre Dame Dawgs 2-0 (25-18, 25-23) to win the boys championship.
The bronze medal went to the third seed Vikings. They defeated the fifth seed Wilson Royals 2-0 (25-17, 28-26)
