Mavs release 2023 impact report, announce assistant coach hiring

On Monday the Mavericks released the impact numbers from their 2023 WCBL season at Athletic Park. In a season the Mavs lost in a deciding Game 3 of the WCBL finals against the Okotoks Dawgs, there was a total attendance with 35,449 fans rolling through the gates for 28 home games. That is an increase of 7.5 per cent from 2022, with a per-game average of 1,266. The Mavs hosted three playoff games with 4,849 fans in attendance, Game 1 of the semifinals against the Regina Red Sox, Game 2 of the East finals against the Moose Jaw Miller Express and Game 2 of the league finals against the Dawgs. That finals game against Okotoks had 2,196 fans at AP, the Mavs’ highest attended game of the season. The Mavs also announced the hiring of an assistant coach for the 2024 season. Cody Henderson of Lewiston, Mont., joins the Mavs from the Embry-Riddle Eagles at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, a private university in Daytona Beach, Fla., where he is a graduate assistant coach. He will work alongside head coach Kevin Mitchell who took the reins mid-summer 2023 as head coach. The Mavs announced in September that Mitchell would return for the 2024 season as head coach after taking over and leading them to the WCBL finals. Henderson shared his desire to coach in Canada and help get the Mavs back to the finals in a release. “I am thankful for the opportunity to join a championship organization to help expand my coaching career,” Henderson said. “I am looking forward to helping take the Mavs back to the WCBL championship and helping players further develop their game by forming relationships and spreading my knowledge of the game. I chose the Mavs because of the great talks with owner Greg Morrison and head coach Kevin Mitchell about what they bring to the table (and) about their love and knowledge of the game. I have also played in Canada and wanted to see what the WCBL has to offer. I am looking forward to a great 2024 season.” 12-11
