Police Point Park and the Nature Centre were busy this past Sunday afternoon with families coming out to enjoy Boo Fest, the inaugural Halloween event hosted by Canadian Mental Health Association’s Recovery College.
Boo Fest organizer Gabrielle Deminick-Meyer says festivities went well despite a few minor hiccups. While the pumpkins arrived, they were stored in a trailer overnight and all ended up being frozen by morning. It worked out well since they weren’t being carved but painted and decorated with stickers.
One item on the scavenger hunt was a conch shell, which went missing and was never found again. Deminick-Meyer says they ended up using a skull and it was a happy ending with everyone working together to make the event successful.
Ashley came to the event with her four daughters and her eldest also brought a friend along. The three youngest were in the Nature Centre decorating pumpkins and sitting for face painting while the two older ones were still outside.
“It gets the kids out and it’s something to do in the middle of winter when there isn’t much to do outside. It was a good free activity and gets them moving,” said Ashley. “We did the scavenger hunt, it was good, we got tricked and ended up going the wrong way, but we figured it out quickly enough that we didn’t go all the way around.”
