The Medicine Hat High Hawks varsity boys volleyball team looks to build off what has been a strong season.
The Hawks are undefeated in league play, with a 6-0 record picking up wins against other 4A opponents in Chinook High School, LCI and Magrath, who are currently the reigning 4A provincial champions.
The 4A boys provincial rankings were released recently with the Hawks named the top 4A team in Alberta.
“I am proud of the work that this team has put in to be in this position,” head coach Jordan Weimer said. “We understand that there is a responsibility and pressure of being the top 4A team in the province, but I know that this is a group of athletes who will accept that responsibility and continue building towards the end of the season.”
The Hawks have found success in tournaments as well this season, picking up a silver medal in LCI’s tournament, a silver at Spruce Grove’s David Pysyk Memorial Tournament and a gold medal at the Super South Tournament in Lethbridge.
They have three more league games before playoffs get started and 4A zones after that. Hat High is hosting zones on Nov. 17 and 18, which gives them just another goal to achieve as they look to play their way into provincials.
“Winning the zone would mean a lot for our program,” Weimer said. “It is something that Hat High hasn’t done for a very long time and this team has a chance to do it. It would be a fantastic experience to win the zone, take the team to provincials and hopefully compete for a provincial title.”
The Hawks wrap up their home schedule with their senior night game on Monday.
