Power price public hearing
All eyes are on city council’s meeting tonight as a public hearing and debate on power prices proposal is on the agenda.
Record high rates in the summer led council to allocate $33 million in utility credits on to power bills this autumn, while an interim rate, if approved, would switch all contract customers on to a lower rate as of Nov. 1.

Expect a large crowd and potentially long, heated public hearing, however.

A group calling itself the “Medicine Hat Utility Ratepayers Association” plans to lobby for a rate based on bare cost of production at the city’s power plant. They’ve also said they plan to request an end to Medicine Hat’s franchise exemptions if the interim rate moves forward instead of a cost-plus model. Read the full story here.

The Meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, or can be watched live at the City of Medicine Hat’s YouTube channel, found at the City of Medicine Hat’s YouTube channel.
