Meteor shower viewing party this week at Echo Dale

Hatters have a chance to see some meteor showers late night this week.

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting a meteor shower viewing party this week to watch the Perseid meteor shower.

The Perseid meteors are considered the best meteor shower of the year by NASA for their bright colours and fireballs. During the peak of the shower, which is predicted to be late Saturday-early Sunday morning, 50-100 meteors can typically be seen per hour.

The MH Interpretive program’s viewing party will be meeting at the Echo Dale viewing point Saturday at 11:30 p.m., with gates closing by 1 a.m.

If conditions are not receptive to viewing the meteors, the event will be pushed to either the Aug. 11 or 13.
