CFSEA releases Endowment Building Toolkit

By Medicine Hat News on August 5, 2023.

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta released this week an Endowment Building Toolkit with the goal of helping non-profit organizations and charities establish their own endowment funds.

CFSEA announced the toolkit in a Friday release, stating it received grant funding for the endeavour through the provincial government’s Civil Society Fund for the Endowment Building for Sustainability Project.

“Agency Endowment Funds provide organizations with a simple and efficient way to build capacity and sustainability. It is a safe and simple way for an organization to establish their own endowment,” reads the release.

“Endowments ensure organizations have the capacity to focus on their mandate and the services they provide while avoiding continuous and exhaustive fundraising and grant writing. Agency Endowments provide an opportunity for philanthropists to contribute to the charities of their choice while investing into the long-term financial stability and future of the organization. Donors can be sure that the endowed fund’s principle will not be spent and can grow over time, providing a source of lasting support for the organization.”

CFSEA currently works with 20 agencies which have created endowment funds, as well as four rural community endowment funds.

The toolkit – which can be found online at cfsea.ca – is available to all interested communities, charities and non-profit organizations.

CFSEA will also be hosting a fall training workshop for groups interested in learning more about endowment funds. To register for the workshop, email Niki Gray at niki@cfsea.ca.
