Med Hat swimmers compete at provincials over weekend

Medicine Hat’s top swim talents took to the pools in Calgary over the weekend against the province’s best.

Representatives of the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club and Waves Swim Club competed at the provincial summer championships held last weekend at MNP Community and Sports Centre.

Seven swimmers from AMAC raced at provincials, here are their results:

Jaivyn Barabe (17) achieved one new best time, placing second in 50m Breast, fourth in 100m Breast, ninth in 50m Fly, 19th in 50m Free and 21st in 100m Free.

Abigail Begin (15) achieved one new best time, placing 18th in 50m Back, 21st in 100m Back, 35th in 200m IM, 45th in 50m Free, 54th in 100m Breast, 61st in 50m Fly and 69th in 100m Free.

Nayla Berg (11) achieved three new best times, placing ninth in 100m Breast Prelims, 10th in 400m Free, 13th in 50m Breast, 20th in 50m Free, 22nd in 100m Free and 24th in 50m Back.

Morgan Hobson (14) achieved two new best times and a new 15 and over provincial Cchamp time in 50m breast for first place. She also placed 10th in 50m Fly and 200m Back, 15th in 100m Back, 17th in 200m Free and 21st in 100m Free.

Kristin Hollingworth (17) placed 10th in 200m Free, 17th in 100m Free and 18th in 50m Fly and 50m Breast.

Caen McWilliams (13) achieved four new best times and a new 13 and under provincial champ time in 50m fly placing 16th. He also placed third in 1500m Free, sixth in 100m Back, eighth in 50m Back, ninth in 200m Back, 12th in 50m free and 14th in 100m Free.

Lily McWilliams (12) achieved one new best time, placing 12th in 50m Free, 21st in 400m Free, 24th in 50m Back, 25th in 100m Free & 200m IM, 27th in 100m Back and 28th in 200m Free.

Provincials concludes the 2022-2023 season for AMAC swim club, their next event is AMAC free week Sept. 11-14, anyone interested can email headcoach@marlin.ab.ca to sign up.

The Waves club also had seven representatives at provincials. They recorded 27 best times with 15 top eight finishes, eight of those in the top three.

Rowynn Biffart (14) Finished the weekend with the Girls 14-year-old top points aggregate after finished first in the 50m Fly, 400IM, 50m Back and 100 Fly. She also finished second in the 100m Free.

Sarah Kradovill (15) Finished 22nd in 200m IM, 26th in 100m Fly and 50m Breast, 39th in 50m Back, 44th in 100m Free, 51st in 50m Free and 62nd in 50m Fly.

Kaden Goffinet (14) Finished second in 1,500m Free, fourth in 800m Free, 11th in 200m Free, 12th 400m Free, 14th in 100m Free, 16th in 200m Free and 23rd in 200m Free.

William Miller (15) Finished third in 200m IM and 200m Back, seventh in 100m back, 12th in 200m Free and 50m Back, 19th in 100m Free and 23rd in 50m Free.

Kage Senft (15) Finished third in 200m Free, fourth in 400m Free, fifth in 100m Free, sixth in 100m Fly, eighth in 50m Back and 10th in 50m Free and 50m Fly.

Johnny Marshall (16) Finished 21st in 200m IM, 27th in 50m Free, 32nd in 50m breast, 38th in 50m Back and 49th in 100m Free.

Karsten Senft (18) Finished 12th in 50m Free, 17th in 100m Back, 25th in 50m Back, 26th in 200m Free and 29th in 100m Free.
