Prince Albert, Sask., officer charged with criminal negligence in in-custody death

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Police in Prince Albert, Sask., say an officer has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities after an in-custody death.

They say Saul Laliberte, who was 33, died while in the detention facility at the police service on Nov. 7, 2021.

Saskatoon police investigated the death and the Crown recommended charges against the officer.

The officer has been relieved from active duty pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Prince Albert police did not identify the officer in a news release today.

They say the officer is to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 25.
