American Legion Baseball roundup: Monarchs come off winning weekend on the road

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs had a winning weekend of baseball.

The U18 Monarchs (12-9) were in Missoula, Mont. over the weekend, winning two of three contests against the Missoula Mavericks.

The Monarch opened their road weekend with a 16-5 win Saturday afternoon. Trevin Ressler and Ryler Straarup led the Monarchs’ offence with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored each. Jeff Bullock added two RBIs and two runs scored on three hits.

Evan Morrison pitched a complete game for Medicine Hat, striking out one batter in his six innings of work.

The Monarchs carried their momentum later Saturday, winning 15-11. Morrison knocked in three RBIs on three hits while scoring twice, and Ressler notched four hits with two RBIs and two runs scored. Bullock had the start for the Monarchs, working 1.2 innings before Ressler took over for an inning and Kayne Olinski finished the game with a strikeout in his 4.1 innings of work.

The Monarchs dropped their final game of the weekend, falling 11-7. Morrison led the way offensively with an RBI on three hits and two runs scored. Cade Harrison started the game for Medicine Hat, striking out a batter in two innings pitched. Straarup recorded a strikeout before Ressler took over to work the final 3.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Knights

The U18 Medicine Hat Knights (12-18) split their weekend of American Legion action. They put together two straight wins Friday, beating the Royals 22-0 and 20-10. Pryce Velichko led the way offensively in the Knights 22-0 win, with five RBIs on three hits with a run scored. Landon Macpherson drove in four runs on three hits, scoring four times and Mace Carriere registered three RBIs on two hits, scoring twice. JJ Harnett started the game for the Knights, registering a strikeout in his two innings pitched. Carrire worked the remaining three innings, putting up a strikeout.

Velichko was the leader again in the Knights 20-10 win, driving in four RBI on two hits with two runs scored. Cade Moch picked up three RBIs on four hits with four runs scored and Carriere scored twice on three hits with three RBIs. Dryden Pidlisny picked up the win on the mound, with a 3.2-inning start registering two strikeouts. Much came into the game in relief and struck out a batter in his two innings. Velichko came into the game in the sixth inning and notched the final out.

The Knights were back in action Sunday facing off against the Tri County Cardinals. They opened the day with a 12-4 loss. Parker Krauss led the offence with a RBI on three hits. Velichko started the game and worked 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts before handing the ball over to Dylan Amundson who notched four strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

The Knights ended their weekend with a close 16-15 loss against the Cardinals. Pidlisny had three RBI on four hits and scored three times in the loss and Carriere had three RBIs on a hit with two runs scored. Nixon Kunkel started the game for the Knights, registering one out before Harnett took over and worked 3.2 innings with six strikeouts. Macpherson took over and struck out a batter and Much finished the game with a strikeout in his 1.2 innings of work.

Majestics

The Medicine Hat U15 Majestics won three of their four contests over the weekend.

The Majestics (24-4) opened the four game set with a 11-2 win Saturday over the Glasgow Legion B team. Asha Frey and Ryan Ziebart led the Majestics offence each notching two RBI on two hits and scoring twice. Liam Cunningham drove in three RBI on two hits with a run scored. Riley Tweten pitched a complete game for Medicine Hat, striking out three in his five innings pitched.

The Majestics carried their momentum into a 10-0 win Saturday against the Havre American Legion. Dane Brooks picked up two RBI on two hits, scoring three times, Cunningham added four RBI on two hits. Ryan Ziebart pitched a complete game, striking out three batters in his four innings of two-hit, shutout baseball.

Medicine Hat’s only loss of the weekend came Sunday morning, as they fell 6-5 against the Lethbridge Lakers. Brooks led the offence with two RBI on one hit. Ayden Andersen threw five innings with three strikeouts. Mason Heintz was on the mound for the final two innings, picking up a strikeout in his 1.2 innings pitched before Lethbridge walked off the game.

The Majestics rounded out their weekend with a 13-3 win Sunday over the Vauxhall Jr. Spurs. Ty Meyer picked up three RBIs on a double with Heintz adding two RBI on a hit with two runs scored. Josh Rolheiser started the game for Medicine Hat, notching two strikeouts in his six innings of work.
