The Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association hosted two divisions for local tournament play over the weekend.

The U13 house league tournament had five teams compete, playing a total of 11 games. The Mambas beat the Vamps 12-10 in the semifinals to advance to the finals against the Gators. The Gators came out on top in the final game 10-7 to take home the gold. Gators, coached by Erynn Biggar and Mikki Lanuk, had an undefeated weekend.

“It was a great weekend of competition,” Biggar said. “The girls played hard and we saw a lot of improvements. The morale and sportsmanship amongst the teams was high, which is always a highlight.”

The U11 house league tournament saw eight teams compete playing a total of 16 games. The Sapphires battled back through the bracket after a first game loss to beat the Shreks in the semifinals after a six-game stretch.

The final game had the Bengals and Sapphires on the diamond, with the Bengals coming out on top to take home gold with an undefeated weekend.

The U11 all-female division ballooned this season to nearly 90 players taking to the diamonds Mondays and Wednesdays until the end of June.

Around the ball diamonds in softball tournament action this weekend, is the U15 house league tournament and the year end U19 High School division.

Both divisions will primarily play in Redcliff with the U15 division hosting five local teams and Brooks. The U19 High School division will crown a league champion from McCoy, CHHS, two teams at each EBHS and MHHS and rural teams Oyen, Bassano and Brooks. The gold medal games for each division are at 3 p.m. Sunday in Redcliff.
