Details for Migratory Bird Day event change

By Medicine Hat News on May 12, 2023.

Details of the Grassland Naturalists and Medicine Hat Interpretive Program’s upcoming World Migratory Bird Day event, written about in Thursday’s edition of the News, have changed.

The event was scheduled to include three expert-guided bird walks through Police Point Park, with walks taking place at 6:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., respectively.

While the 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. walks will go forward as scheduled, the 9:45 a.m. walk has been cancelled and replaced with an 8 a.m. walk around Connaught Pond, with opportunity to visit the wetlands above Echo Dale Regional Park as well.

The change allows Hatters to see a wider range of migratory birds, as the 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. walks will focus on early morning birds, like warblers; while the 8 a.m. walk will focus on water birds, such as ducks.

Participants in the 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. walks are asked to meet at Police Point Park’s main parking lot; while participants in the 8 a.m. walk will meet at the Christian Reformed Church on Primrose Drive.

Pre-registration is required for all three walks. To register call 403-529-6225.
