MAPLE CREEK

A former teacher is facing more charges that he sexually assaulted young male athletes in the early 2000s, according to the RCMP detachment in Maple Creek.

On April 26, the RCMP announced they had laid an initial charge against Dexter Bacsu, 64, after a complainant contacted them stating an assault had occurred on a sports trip several decades earlier.

Two more alleged victims contacted RCMP in the following days, say the Mounties, and a total of four new charges — two sexual assault and two sexual interference allegations — were laid.

At the time of the initial charge, investigators stated they believed more potential incidents may have occurred. They released his career history and asked for others to come forward.

Bacsu is described as a long-time teacher in Maple Creek schools who volunteered in youth music and sports groups. He worked recently as a substitute teacher but is o longer employed with the Chinook School Division.

He made a first court appearance on April 26 and will answer to new charges in Maple Creek Provincial Court on May 11.
