The 11 Medicine Hat athletes who competed at the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games in Strathcona County last weekend pose with thier medals.
Hatters came away from the Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games last weekend with heavier necks.
All 11 local athletes returned from the games in Strathcona County with at least one medal each, with six competing in 5-pin bowling and five showcasing their skills in floor hockey.
Trent Green, Chuck McDonald, Elaine McDonald and Linda McDonald joined the “Grande Wood Hat Wolves” floor hockey team, competing with athletes from Grande Prairie, Wood Buffalo to compete at the provincial games.The team went 1-2 through the round robin and won 3-1 to take the bronze medal against the team from Spruce Grove.
Blair Yuhas joined the “Leth Grove” floor hockey team made up of players from Lethbridge, Spruce Grove and other cities in the province. That team went 0-3-1 in the round robin, and fell 15-14 against Strathcona in double OT of the semifinal, coming away with a bronze medal.
The Medicine Hat 5 Pin Bowling Team was made up of Marie Demaris, Liam Carter, Christine Sullivan, Brielle Granger and Sinjin Soper. In the teams competition, they finished 189 pins over their average winning a gold medal. Sinjin Soper led the way with a 220 single, 570 triple and finishing +159.
Brydon Marchand joined the host 5 Pin Bowling team from Strathcona. They finished -41 in their division, picking up a bronze medal.
In the 5 Pin singles competition, Carter won bronze in the M5 division, finishing +10.Marchand finished fourth in the M6 division. Soper won gold in the M7 division finishing +142. Demaris won bronze with a +5 and Christine Sullivan won silver with +56 in the F6 division.Brielle Granger won silver in the F9 division finishing +25.
