Artists from local high schools are being recognized with the return of the annual High School Art Exhibition.
Housed in Medicine Hat College’s One on One Gallery, the exhibition features art pieces created by students at Eagle Butte, Crescent Heights, Medicine Hat and Monsignor McCoy high schools.
“The high school instructors select their students’ best works,” MHC art and design program co-ordinator Yulin Wang told the News. “We have just over 60 pieces and (the students) did amazing job. The overall quality is great and we can sense the time and the energy the students put in.”
MHC art and design program faculty reviewed submissions and bestowed three pieces with first-, second- and third-place awards, as well as two with honourable mentions. Winners were announced Feb. 11 during a free public open house.
This year’s first-place winner was Megan McKay of Eagle Butte, second-place Jorja Risk of MHHS, third-place Siri Timm of MHHS, and honourable mentions Sean Acheson of MHHS and Lacey Therrien of Crescent Heights.
The exhibition remains open to the public from now until Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
