sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The 2022-23 ACAC regular season is coming to a close for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers basketball and volleyball teams. The basketball teams hosted Lakeland College and Keyano College on Friday and Saturday respectively. The men’s team lost 95-75 against Lakeland and 90-59 versus Keyano. Cooper Ward led the way offensively for the Rattlers in both games, racking up 12 rebounds and 26 points in their first game and nine rebounds, seven assists and 21 points in their second. The women’s team (0-20) fell 82-49 to Lakeland and 68-41 to Keyano. Brynn Bremner led the Rattlers on Friday with 16 points and four assists. Alia Boulanger was the leader on Saturday, scoring 13 points. The Rattler’s men’s team (9-11) finished their season in fifth place of the South division and will compete in a play-in game on the road against the University of Alberta-Augustana on Friday. A win and they will qualify for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championship tournament at Ambrose University March 2-4. In volleyball action, the Rattlers teams were on the road to play Lakeland and Keyano. The men’s and women’s teams were blanked three sets to none in both of their matches. The women’s volleyball team finished sixth in the South division and will compete in a championship tournament play-in game. They will face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on the road Friday. Their final tournament takes place Feb. 23-25. The Rattlers Indoor Track team was at the Big Marble Go Centre on Saturday competing in the 2023 Panther’s Indoor Track Meet. Branon Sumner led the day, clocking a 2:03.1 win in the Men’s 800m. Justin Jager won the Men’s 400m in 55.0, while Becky Ross, in her first ever track race, prevailed in the Women’s 1,500m. All three athletes established new school records in their respective events. Raya Grover (1:11.8 – Women’s 400m) and Jaiden Romaniuk (4:41.6 – Men’s 1500m) also recorded new Rattler’s records. The Rattlers’ next ACAC action is this weekend when the team travels to Red Deer for ACAC #2- The RDP Indoor Track Meet. 14
