A 32-year-old Coalhurst man who admits he uploaded and distributed child pornography on multiple occasions in 2021, won’t learn his fate until next month when he is scheduled to be sentenced.
Casey Jose is set to be sentenced by Judge Erin Olsen, who last month in Lethbridge provincial court heard graphic and disturbing details of the pornography Jose uploaded while he was at work and at home.
According to an agreed statement of facts presented to the court by specialized Crown Prosecutor Lisa Weich, Jose uploaded seven different files of child pornography – images and videos – from April 11-29, 2021 while he was at work in Lethbridge. He also uploaded the pornography through a messaging application to private and group chats.
Jose uploaded 72 different files of child pornography – three images and 69 videos – from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18, 2021, while he was a work or home, and he uploaded some of the files multiple times to private chats and group chats.
From Dec. 1-15, 2021, Jose uploaded 46 different files of child pornography – two images and 44 videos – while he was at work or at home, some of the files multiple times.
Police seized Jose’s cellphone from inside his residence and discovered through a forensic analysis that the messaging application was installed on the phone. Police found 366 unique images of child pornography and 82 unique videos of child pornography on the phone, most of them associated with the application.
Police seized another phone from inside Jose’s residence and conducted a forensic analysis, during which they discovered the same messaging application, as well as Snapchat and another application, had also been installed. Police found 40 unique images of child pornography and 37 unique videos of child pornography.
Jose was caught after the United States National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was alerted that child pornography was being uploaded and distributed. The Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit then began investigating the suspect.
Jose, who previously pleaded guilty to the two criminal charges, is scheduled to be sentenced March 24. In the meantime the Crown and defence will provide the judge with additional sentencing submissions next week.
