By James Tubb on January 29, 2023.

The Medicine Hat Tigers put on a show Sunday afternoon in Regina.

After trailing 4-2 heading into the third period, the Tigers scored four unanswered goals on the road to beat the Pats 6-4. The comeback win comes off a 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday in Moose Jaw against the Warriors.

Regina opened the scoring in the first period with two straight goals from superstar Connor Bedard. He notched his 40th of the season on a power play at the 9:15 before getting his second of the game 4:15 later by knocking in a loose puck.

With less than five minutes remaining in the period, Pasha Bocharov scored his 10th of the year to cut the Pats lead to 2-1. Andrew Basha and Oasiz Wiesblatt had the assists. Just as the period was about to wind down, Regina’s Zane Rowan scored with 21 seconds remaining to regain the two goal lead.

Regina carried the scoring into the second period when Bedard finished his hat trick by redirecting a shot from Luke Bateman, putting the Pats ahead 4-1.

Andrew Basha brought the Tigers within two off of a breakaway goal with 3:03 left in the second period, Regina outshot Medicine Hat 20-16 through 40 minutes.

With back-to-back goals from Bogdans Hodass a little over eight minutes a part, the Tigers tied the game up 4-4. The Latvian defenceman wired home a shot off a Cayden Lindstrom face-off win at 6:28 and 8:06 later, Hodass had a seeing-eye-shot find the net after an Wiesblatt face-off win.

A little over two minutes later, the Tigers kept the foot on the pedal when Tomas Mrsic worked his way through two defenders and fired home his seventh goal of the year, the eventual game winner. Brayden Boehm and Tyler MacKenzie had the assists on Mrsic’s goal.

The Tigers had a late penalty kill but held on as Boehm scored an empty netter for his 18th and the eventual 6-4 winning score.

Beckett Langkow picked up his 17th win of the season between the pipes with 21 saves. Across the ice from him, Drew Sim made 33 saves.

The Tigers (19-21-7-1) are tied for eighth place in the Eastern conference, the final playoff spot in the East, held by the Pats. Medicine Hat has earned points in six straight games. Their next action is Saturday when they host the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Co-op Place before the Pats come to town on Sunday.
