AMAC swimmers shine as hosts of Last Chance Swim

Swimmers from the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club made the most of their weekend as hosts of the Last Chance Swim closed invitational meet on Saturday at the Big Marble Go Centre.

The meet served as a final opportunity for swimmers from Medicine Hat and Lethbridge to clock in festival and provincial times for the short course season, and five of AMAC’s athletes did just that – with 10-year-olds Emily Carter, Olivia Liebenberg and Gage Anderson, and 11-year-old Masao Mori all achieving festival-qualifying times, and 12-year-old Lily McWilliams earning her first-ever provincial time in the 50-metre freestyle.

McWilliams finished second in the 50-metre freestyle for girls 11-12, as well as the 100-metre freestyle while also claiming gold in the 400-metre freestyle and bronze in the 50-metre butterfly and 200-metre freestyle.

In the girls 10 and under division, Carter took gold in the 50-metre and 100-metre breaststroke events, as well as silver in the 100-metre individual medley and 50-metre butterfly, and bronze in the 100-metre backstroke.

Liebenberg finished first in the 50, 100 and 200-metre freestyle events, as well as bronze in the 50-metre breast and backstroke.

In the boys 11 and under division, Anderson took first in the 100-metre IM, the 50 and 200-metre freestyle and the 200-metre backstroke, as well as second in the 100-metre backstroke.

Mori took first in the 100-metre backstroke, the 50-metre breaststroke, the 100-metre butterfly and the 200-metre freestyle.

Also in the girls 10 and under, Olivia McWilliams, 9, finished first in the 50 and 100-metre backstroke, as well as the 50-metre butterfly. She also took second in the 100-metre freestyle and third in the 100-metre breaststroke.

Nine-year-old Carleigh Gainsborough took gold in the 100-metre IM and silver in the 100-metre breaststroke.

Abigail Holden, 10, earned bronze in the 50-metre butterfly.

Charlotte Kurpjuweit, 10, finished second in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre backstroke.

In the girls 11-12 division, Nayla Berg, 11, finished first in the 200-metre IM, second in the 200-metre breaststroke and third in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Lauren Gainsborough, 12, took first in the 100-metre IM, backstroke and butterfly, and the 50-metre butterfly.

Estelle Grisak, 12, finished first in the 200-metre backstroke.

Jordyn Nikiel, 12, finished second in the 100-metre IM and 200-metre freestyle.

Aliya Seeley, 12, took first in the 200-metre freestyle and third in the 100.

Sophia Solven, 12, finished second in the 50-metre butterfly.

In the girls 13-14 division, Eden Albers, 14, took second in the 100-metre IM.

Abigail Begin, 14, finished first in the 100-metre backstroke, second in the 50-metre butterfly and backstroke, and the 100-metre freestyle, and third in the 50-metre freestyle.

Aydria Berg, 13, finished third in the 100-metre IM.

Irene Hernandez Acosta, 16, finished first in the 200-metre breaststroke.

Morgan Hobson, 14, took first in the 200-metre freestyle, and the 100 and 200-metre breaststroke, as well as second in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Kora Kurpjuweit, 13, took third in the 100 and 200-metre freestyle and the 50-metre butterfly.

Ava Wentzel, 13, finished second in the 200-metre IM and third in the 200-metre breaststroke.

In the girls 15 and over division, Jaivyn Barabe took first in the 50 and 100-metre breaststroke, and the 50-metre butterfly, as well as second in the 50-metre backstroke and freestyle.

Kristin Hollingsworth, 17, finished first in the 50 and 100-metre freestyle, the 200-metre IM and the 100-metre butterfly.

Jocelyn Macphail, 16, finished first in the 100-metre IM, second in the 50-metre butterfly and third in the 50-metre backstroke and freestyle.

Sara McFayden, 16, took first in the 400-metre freestyle, second in the 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre freestyle, and third in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Amethyst Millar, 15, finished second in the 50-metre breaststroke and third in the 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre freestyle.

Maria Pachan, 16, won the 200-metre freestyle, finished second in the 100-metre IM and third in the 50-metre butterfly.

In the boys 11 and under, Zachary Pillibeit, 11, won the 50-metre backstroke and finished second in the 50-metre freestyle.

Austin Seeley, 10, finished first in the 50-metre butterfly, second in the 50-metre backstroke and third in both the 50 and 100-metre freestyle.

Izaak Smith, 10, finished first in the 100-metre breaststroke, and third in the 50 and 100-metre backstroke and the 50-metre breaststroke.

In the boys 12-13 division, Caen McWilliams, 13, took first in the 50 and 100-metre freestyle and the 100-metre breaststroke, as well as second in the 50-metre backstroke.

Bokken Sandford, 12, took third in the 50-metre backstroke.

Micah Smith, 12, took third in the 50-metre butterfly and backstroke.

Leo Yonkman finished first in the 50-metre butterfly, second in the 50-metre freestyle and third in the 100 and 200-metre freestyle.

In the boys 14-15 division, Hunter Skrove, 15, finished first in the 50-metre freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke.

In the boys 16 and over division, Ashton Scholly, 18, took first in the 50 and 100-metre freestyle, the 50 and 100-metre backstroke and the 50-metre butterfly.

AMAC returns to the pool for the Winter Festivals South in March for qualified 10 and under girls and 11 and under boys.
