Local man faces several charges after alleged domestic dispute at hotel

A Medicine Hat man is charged with weapons offences after a domestic dispute turned into a short standoff at a local hotel on the weekend.

Police say they were called to the southwest area of the city on Saturday after a woman reported an altercation that involved a firearm.

A search of the hotel room found a rifle, according to police, along with ammunition and a replica firearm.

Brian Christopher Aske, 44, is charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, assault, altering a firearm serial number, uttering threats and breaching a firearms prohibition.

He is in custody and scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Tuesday.
