The Government of Canada announced Active Transportation grants for 17 projects in that province, totalling $1.9 million. About $157,000 will go toward building 2.5 kilometres of trailway in Leader, which will complete a five-kilometre circle. No other details were released. The largest grant for mainly trail development, worth $875,000, was awarded to the town of Turleford. The town of Kerrobert, in east-central portion of the province, was awarded $30,000. Flood-proofing The city of Edmonton will receive $22 million to flood proof its sewage treatment plant and create smart monitoring systems at storm water ponds. Money from the federal Disaster and Mitigation Adaptation Fund will be used to install back-flow preventors at the Gold Bar water treatment plant, and install automatic gates and sensors at 117 storm retention ponds in the city. The work will be performed by Epcor, according to a release from Ottawa on Dec. 19. 9
