CALGARY – The Netherlands continued its torrid medal pace at a speedskating World Cup in Calgary and the host Canadian team picked up a pair of bronze Friday.
The Dutch collected a dozen medals, including five gold, at the first of two consecutive World Cups in Calgary last week.
They added to their medal haul to start the second event Friday at the Olympic Oval with two gold among four won.
Ottawa’s Ivanie Blondin took bronze in the women’s 5,000 metres.
Laurent Dubreuil of Lévis, Que., and Montreal’s Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu and Christopher Fiola combined to take bronze in the men’s team sprint.
Kjeld Nuis and Irene Schouten of the Netherlands were the winners of the men’s 1,500 metres and women’s 5k respectively.
South Korea’s Min-Sum Kim won the women’s 500 metres.
Poland was the men’s team sprint victor just three hundredths of a second ahead of the Dutch.
