Stolen car, dog were found north of Maple Creek in Saskatchewan

More is being learned about how a case of auto-theft that involved a local women’s dog was concluded by police last week.

RCMP is Saskatchewan are crediting a regional crime watch organization with recovering a car stolen in Medicine Hat on Dec. 2.

Local police announced that day that a three-year-old doberman pinscher was in a vehicle taken from a Kingsway Avenue business in the morning.

RCMP noted on a weekly release of activity that the stolen Chevrolet Sonic hatchback was reported north of Maple Creek at about 12:30 p.m. that day.

At that point the detachment in the town sent a bulletin to the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network.

Police say one public member of the group observed the vehicle enter his yard shortly after the notice and called authorities.

A 30-year-old man from Regina and a 36-year-old man from Cupar, Sask. were arrested without incident and face charges ranging from possessing a stolen car to failing to comply with release conditions.

The two unnamed suspects appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on Jan. 12.

Rural drunk driving case

RCMP in Pontiex, Sask allege a man travelling with two children was impaired and driving almost 60 kilometres per hour over the speed limit at 4 p.m. on Dec. 2.

That day was “National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day” as a way to publicize efforts to reduce drunk and drug-impaired driving.

Officers at the detachment who were located about one hour’s drive south of Swift Current were patrolling when they say they observed the vehicle travelling at 158 kilometres per hour. The 37-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. The children remained with authorities until they were collected by a sober adult.
