Rattlers roundup: Rattlers men’s basketball sweeps weekend

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team ended their first semester schedule on a high note.

At home, the men’s basketball team took both games against the Olds College Broncos. On Friday night the Rattlers won 83-77 and followed that with an 88-78 win on Saturday.

Ethan Robinson led the way offensively Friday with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. Cooper Ward added 23 points with 14 defensive rebounds and six assists.

In Saturday’s win, Jordan Bigger had 33 points with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Rattler’s women’s basketball team fell 71-64 on Friday and 76-56 on Saturday against Olds College. Brynn Bremner was the Rattlers leading scorer Friday with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. She also led the way Saturday with 14 points and three rebounds on Saturday. Sheridan George had 13 points and eight rebounds in their game Saturday.

At the Christmas break, the men sit in second place of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s South Division with a record of 8-2. The women’s team is last in the division with a record of 0-10.

Volleyball

The Rattlers volleyball teams were in Olds over the weekend, with the women’s team winning both of their matches, beating the Broncos in three sets Friday (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) and in four sets on Saturday (25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23). Montana Wright had 10 kills in the Rattlers win on Friday and Anica Haberstock had 14 of her own on Saturday.

The men’s team dropped both of their matches in Olds, losing in four sets (18-25, 12-25, 28-26, 26-28) on Friday and three on Saturday (17-25, 15-25, 17-25). Nathan Chernik had 20 kills for the Rattlers on Friday and led the way Saturday with seven.

At the Christmas break, the women’s record is 5-7, putting them in third place in the division. The men are 1-11 at the break.

The Rattlers return to action in January with the basketball teams hosting Ambrose University on Jan. 12 and the volleyball teams hosting the University of Alberta-Augustana on Jan. 13.
