Three Medicine Hatters were charged after a series of home and business break-ins in Acadia Valley late last month, the RCMP in Oyen announced Wednesday.

They say that on Oct. 27, officers responded to “multiple business and residential break-ins” that saw a number of vehicles, ATVs and a trailer taken.

One abandoned vehicle contained eight stolen guns and a 55-gallon drum of diesel fuel.

A traffic stop on Highway 41 on Oct. 28 saw mounties arrest and charge two people who were set to appear in Hanna Provincial Court this week.

Ricky Vidness, 26, and Jazmine Van Tassell , 22, both of Medicine Hat, were each charged with four counts of breaking and entering, five counts of stealing a motor vehicle and four counts of theft over $5,000. Vidness is also charged with possession of a stolen weapon.

A third suspect was identified through video footage as Jeffrey Lawless, 37, of Medicine Hat, who is still at large.

He faces single counts of breaking and entering and theft over $5,000, and three counts of vehicle theft.

Redcliff resident nabbed for theft, B&E in Ft. Macleod

A Redcliff woman is one of two people charged after a truck stolen in Medicine Hat was found at the scene of a break and enter in Fort Macleod, Mounties there said Wednesday.

RCMP officers responded to a break and enter in progress at about 9 p.m. Monday night and followed a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup that fled from the scene. After locating the vehicle, several police agencies apprehended a man and woman after “several suspects” left on foot.

Authorities say a “large amount of stolen goods” related to several suspected break-ins was found in the truck. They believe at least one other person was involved.

Charged are David Archibald Hearn, 50, of Fort Macleod, and Kristy Leanne Miller, 31, of Redcliff. They each face counts of possessing stolen property valued below and above $5,000, break and enter with intent and flight from police.

They were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Fort Macleod.
