The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) will be presenting a recreation of Lux Theatre’s 1947 radio presentation It’s a Wonderful Life.
The production will hit the stage at the Yates Theatre Nov. 18-19 at 7:30pm and on November 20 at 2 pm. The show is a fundraiser for the LSCO with tickets $50 each, and $45 for seniors.
The Lux Theatre originally recreated movies for radio after the movie cycled through theatres. The production will feature sound effects presented by Tyler Leavitt using the Foley system.
The Foley system requires all the sound effects to be manufactured on stage during the performance by various means.
The cast will comprise seven performers, including Tony Days, Morgan Day, Mark Campbell, Kate Hogg, Jory Kohn, Sheila Matson, and Stephen Graham, covering 54 different roles. It promises to be very faithful to the original radio production and uses the same script as the movie.
Fran Rude, an organizer with the production, is very excited about the play and hopes the audience will be surprised and in awe of the methods used to recreate the sounds that will be used on stage. She stated the Foley system is still in use today on radio and in film, but not as much on stage.
