SAHA teams coming off losing weekends

The South Alberta Hockey Academy women’s and men’s hockey team had difficult weekends on the road.

The SAHA women’s U18 team dropped their four contests for their first four regulation losses on the season.

They opened the stretch with a 4-1 loss Thursday against the RINK Kelowna Hockey Academy. Julie Barlow scored their only goal of the game and Maddy Ferguson made 49 saves in the loss.

Friday they were shutout 2-0 by the Delta Hockey Academy. Devyn Amundson made 45 saves in in the game.

SAHA got back on the board Saturday, scoring two goals in their 4-2 loss to the Edge school prep team. Kendal Davidson had a goal and an assist and Kenzie Carson had a goal of her own. Ferguson was back between the pipes and made 36 saves.

In a rematch of their Friday contest, SAHA was shutout 5-0 by RINK Kelowna on Sunday. Amundson got that start in net and made 53 saves.

The SAHA women’s team (8-4-1) have another four game weekend on the road ahead, where they will face RHA Winnipeg (twice), St. Mary’s Academy and Edge.

The SAHA men’s U18 team only had three games over the weekend and were 1-2 in the stretch. They opened their weekend with a 4-1 loss Friday against the Edge school. Noah Dziver scored for SAHA and Zach Zahara made 40 saves in net.

On Saturday the men’s team trailed early and lost 5-2 against RHA Winnipeg. Nathan Hawkins and Dziver had their only offence while Ethan McCallum made 27 saves in his start.

SAHA picked up their weekend win on Sunday, shutting out Northern Alberta Xtreme 2-0. Kadon McCann notched a goal and an assist and Nate Corbet added a goal of his own. Zahara turned aside all 38 shots he faced for his first shutout of the CSSHL season.

The SAHA men’s team (7-3-1) have two games this weekend, both at home at the Big Marble Go Centre. Saturday they host RHA Winnipeg for a 11:30 a.m. game and welcome OHA Edmonton on Sunday for a 10:30 a.m. match.
