TAMPA, Fla. – The Canada Wolverines defeated the USA Hawks 22-10 in a men’s rugby league international Saturday. Canada led 10-6 at the break at the Tampa Sportsplex, extending the lead to 16-6 with a converted try early in the second half. A try by Kevin Reed Jr. cut the Canada lead to 16-10 but the Canadians scored under the posts late in the game to increase their lead. The Canadians, who have not seen action since a 2019 tour to Serbia, are building toward next year’s Americas Championship, which doubles as a 2025 World Cup qualifier for the region. Rugby league is the 13-player version of the code, as opposed to 15-player rugby union. It is played primarily in Australia, England and New Zealand. — This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 5, 2022. 7
