kking@medicinehatnews.com Get ready for double the scares and double the fun as Christmas Doesn’t Have to Be Scary double feature drive-in night returns to the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede this Saturday. Now in its sixth year, the annual event offers Hatters a chance to enjoy some of their favourite Halloween films, while having a positive impact in the community as all proceeds from the evening go toward the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund. “It’s a free event, but donations are accepted and encouraged as it is a fundraiser for the Santa Claus Fund,” event sponsor Nathan Nunweiler told the News. “This year (we’re showing) Corpse Bride – so a kids movie first – followed by The Rocky Horror Picture Show – so a teenager, kind of adult one.” Nunweiler says he’s particularly excited about The Rocky Horror Picture Show as Christmas Doesn’t Have to Be Scary is one of only six Canadian venues/events to be awarded licensing to show the film this year. Attendees are welcome to drop in for one of both films being shown, with Corpse Bride beginning at approximately 7 p.m. and The Rocky Horror Picture Show beginning at about 9 p.m. Nunweiler does recommend arriving early to secure the best spot. Gates are expected to open shortly after 6 p.m. Snacks will be available for purchase from the Stampede’s concession as well as several local food trucks. Because what’s a movie without snacks? 8
