Police investigating alleged altercation between YMCA staff member and child

The YMCA of Medicine Hat says it has launched an internal investigation and also notified Medicine Hat police after an alleged altercation between a child and staff member on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the YMCA’s Crestwood before- and after-school facility.

“We want to assure the community that we take incidents such as this very seriously and have acted accordingly,” stated a release from the organization which provided few details, but says the agency considers child safety as “the cornerstone” value.

“We can confirm that Children’s Services and the Medicine Hat Police Service are investigating, and we are co-operating with them during this time.”

Additional supports are being offered to children, families and employees, according to the release.
