1932 – JOE WAGNER – 2022
Joseph Wagner of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Erma (Heck), passed away peacefully on September 15, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. Joe was born on the family farm near Lemsford, Saskatchewan, June 16th, 1932. He was an industrious young boy who loved horses, hunting and athletics. It was at a sports day that he met Erma and they would share almost 64 years before her passing in 2019. They farmed together in Liebenthal, Saskatchewan where they raised their family, a menagerie of livestock, an orchard, a garden and some hard earned acres. Over the years, Joe became a vital and beloved member of each community he joined. In Liebenthal, he umped and coached ball, painted houses, and was the pest control officer, known as “The Rat Man”. When they retired in 1998, moving to Medicine Hat, Joe busied himself at Park Meadows on various committees and entertaining in their home. The winters found Joe and Erma in Mesa, Arizona where Joe enjoyed wood-working, being the park’s “Mr. Fix-It”, gatherings with friends, and venturing out for further travels. In 2020, he joined the Meadowlands community and once again was embraced as a kind, generous member, involving himself in teaching bridge, going to exercises, playing cards and charming the staff. Family and faith were always at the core of everything Joe did. He attended mass weekly and became a District Grand Knight. Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his children Blaine, Michelle (Paul Sehn), Blair (Kimberly), son-in-law Jerry Deitrich, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, his sisters Betty Scherger and Clare Blore, his brothers Raymond Wagner and Pius Wagner as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents Lukas and Philomena, his infant son Dwayne, wife Erma, daughter Colleen Deitrich, sisters Katherine Schmidt and Lorraine Ries, and brother Tony Wagner. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. 1981 – KYLA GAUTHIER – 2022
Kyla spent her final days at home, surrounded by her family. While the lives of her loved ones – Nick, Hallie, Easton, Shayla, Chris, Dre and Brody, Connie and Dave will never be the same; Kyla found peace in that she had the chance to tell each of them how much she loved them before passing away September 13, 2022.
Kyla was born January 6, 1981 in Medicine Hat. The best moments of Kyla’s school experience were meeting her soul mate, Nick Gauthier and best friend Clara at St. Mary’s Junior High School. In 2006, Nick and Kyla exchanged vows, promising to spend the rest of their lives together. Kyla’s family was the center of her world. She cherished every moment of being a mother to Hallie and Easton, enjoying listening to their stories and supporting them in all their activities. She had a special relationship with her nephews, Dre and Brody, devoting time to supporting their adventures. She was all about family, friends and memories with lots of love and laughs. Kyla was always the most enthusiastic participant in making family memories, creating special moments and remembering the small things that would guarantee everyone felt special. Kyla always had a smile and it was infectious to everyone around her, especially her family.
In 2012, she completed her dental assistant certificate. She came to realize that she enjoyed working in endodontics and was employed by Schow Dental. Kyla was a puzzle master, even once finishing a 500-piece puzzle while doing a round of chemotherapy. Every September Kyla awaited her letter to Hogwarts School of Wizardry, avidly reading the books to prepare for the moment it arrived. She shared the love of the Toronto Blue Jays with many of her family members and the games were a constant on the TV in her home. In her final days, her family noticed a bluejay sitting outside her window. Recently she became passionate about refinishing vintage wood furniture and started the Facebook page called “All Things Made Beautiful”.
When her cancer returned her positive attitude and tenacious spirit enabled her to live every day to the fullest. So much so, while battling fear and pain, she decided that what she needed was more family, laughs and love. Her passion to live and spend as much time with family as possible resulted in a large party named The Bubble Bash and the entire family setting out for a road trip, which Kyla called the BC Fun Fiesta, posting daily updates of our shenanigans. Kyla wanted everyone to know “That her family was her everything and she loves everyone so much”.
While Kyla loved food and flowers, a goal at the end of her life was to help other’s experiencing cancer. She did this by raising $704 at the Bubble Bash and donating it to Alberta Cancer Foundation (Tom Baker Cancer Center). For family and friends so wishing, please support Kyla’s passion to help others and make memory donations in Kyla’s name to the Alberta Cancer Foundation – Tom Baker Cancer Clinic specifying “Patient Assistance”.

ARDIS ANN HAUPT
October 12, 1935 ~ September 6, 2022
Ardis Ann Haupt, beloved wife of the late Johnny Haupt, passed away at the Good Samaritan South Ridge Village in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 86 years. Ardis was born on October 12, 1935, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan to Edith and Henry Borman. She was the youngest of four children and grew up on the family farm in the Skull Creek district. Ardis attended school in Skull Creek, Maple Creek and did some of her schooling through correspondence. Later on, she furthered her education in Calgary becoming a lab technician. She worked for a short time in Prince Albert and then in Medicine Hat until 1973. Ardis met her sweetheart, Johnny Haupt, at Beef Club Achievement Day and they were married in December 1957 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Maple Creek, having their dance at Star Butte School. They lived at the Haupt farm in the Star Butte district for a short time and then moved to Medicine Hat where they bought a house on Ross Street. In 1961, they bought their farm near Seven Persons, on the open prairie with the creek running threw it. They worked very hard to establish this farm and Ardis took great pride in her home, yard and the many trees she planted. She always loved working in her yard. In 1967, they welcomed a son, Steven and in 1968, a daughter, Stephanie. Ardis was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and was a talented seamstress, making quilts and clothing for her grandchildren; these things will be cherished forever. Ardis was kind, patient and gentle and her grandchildren loved to spend time with her. In 2013, with health issues looming, Ardis and Johnny moved to Medicine Hat and returned to the farm for two summers until they could no longer live there independently. Ardis was a resident of the Good Samaritan Village for the past five years and the staff there became like family. Ardis’ family will forever be grateful for the love and compassion they showed them. Ardis is survived by her children: son, Steve (Tracy) and their children Paige (Jayson) and Cody; daughter, Stephanie (Jim) and their children Tiffany, Samantha (Brandon) and their boys, Cole and Tyson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by John in 2020, and the family takes comfort in knowing they are together again holding hands. ‘Rest peacefully mom, you will forever be in our hearts!’ A private family gathering will be held at a later date. BERNARD (BARNEY) ZUBOT
Bernard (Barney) Zubot passed from this earth to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in his home at the Villa Marie in Red Deer Alberta, at the age of 95.
Barney started his teaching career at a young age (17) and taught for eight memorable years. While teaching in Medicine Hat and area, he met and married the love of his life, Rose Schlosser. The second passion in his work career was farming (which included many farm equipment modifications). He and Rose returned to the family farm in the Mendham area after they had been married for a year. It was here that they raised their four children, were active in their community and church and had a wonderful life surrounded by family, many dear friends and neighbors in this close- knit community. He loved hosting his siblings and their families on the farm on which they had grown up. His third work passion was income tax. While still farming he studied to become a farm tax accountant and enjoyed knowing the tax laws so thoroughly that he could work them to the advantage of himself or one of the many neighbors whose taxes he did. Barney and Rose enjoyed their retirement in Medicine Hat which for Barney included competitive bowling, lots of golf, curling (which was best when done with his brothers), countless card games, traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer and always trying to find a way to brighten someone’s day.
Although Barney no longer was a teacher in a school classroom, he remained a teacher in the classroom of life all his years. And what a great teacher he was! His zest for life, love of family, problem-solving and enthusiasm for a new adventure, combined with his love of a joke or trick resulted in a life filled with much joy and happiness.
He was predeceased by his wife Rose (nee Schlosser), his parents Michael and Mary Zubot, his parents-in-law Frank and Barbara Schlosser and was the last survivor of a family of eleven children.
Barney’s memory and his love lives on in his four children, Janice (Bob) Schmitt, Beverly (Bob Gephart) Zubot, Albin (Marilyn) Zubot and Myra (Jack Mitchell) Zubot Mitchell. Many stories and fond memories are held close in the hearts of his fourteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for prayers at Eventide Funeral Home (4820 45th St, Red Deer) on Sunday, September 18 at 7:00 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Mary’s Parish (6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer) on Monday September 19 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery, in Medicine Hat at a later date.

STEPHAN ANDREW FRANCIS DEVONSHIRE
1972 ~ 2022
Stephan Andrew Francis Devonshire left this earthly realm on August 3, 2022 at the age of 49 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Ryan, Matthew, and Andrew; mum and dad, Gwyn and Mick Devonshire; sister, Shirma Rose; niece, Mikyla; nephew, Camden; and will also be fondly remembered by many family and friends around the world. He was predeceased by his infant brother, Glynn Tilney. Stephan was born in Poole, Dorset, England on October 19th, 1972. He travelled in a sky cot aboard an old Hercules to Gibralta at seven weeks of age. This started his life as a “Pads Brat”; first returning to Ripon, North Yorkshire and then Hamelin, Germany, and finally arriving at Ralston, AB at the age of four years. He grew up to be an outdoorsman…attending summer camps wherever they took him, Beavers to Boy Scouts, and Cadets to SALH. Stephan joined the regular forces when his second son was born…pretty fair to say he was “Army Barmy” from a young age. Stephan also loved soccer and rugby. He attended school in Medicine Hat; Rossglen, Alexandra Middle school, and Medicine High School. After high school he was admitted into the drafting program in Lethbridge. His dad, Mick, taught him mechanics and while he was in the Armed Forces he completed his Heavy Duty mechanics. Friends and family fondly called Stephan “fix it” or “fetch it”. He would help anyone in need of assistance with building or mechanical projects. He will be sorely missed. The last few years, “the Covid period” has not been kind to many. A memorial service was held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB. Please, in lieu of flowers, take a few moments to reach out to your fellow man in need.
