Medicine Hat city hall and some municipal services will be closed on Monday in alignment with a federal government’s day of mourning holiday coincide with the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

A city release on Wednesday morning states that city council’s Sept. 19 meeting will be cancelled with business moving to the next scheduled meeting in October.

Police, fire and transit operations as well as solid waste collection and the landfill will continue as normal on that day though offices may be closed to public.

Co-op Place, the Esplanade and other recreation facilities will also be closed, with the exception of the Big Marble Go Centre. That facility will operate on holiday hours of noon until 5 p.m. Bookings outside those hours are being rescheduled.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the federal government will observe a holiday to mark the funeral of monarch. That only applies to federal government offices, and each province has the ability to set its own general holiday protocols. Alberta’s plan is expected to be released later Wednesday.
