Kaiden Nott recently finished a several-months long process between applying and getting a position on the Ministers Youth Council.
The 15-year-old Grade 11 student at Monsignor McCoy High School explained he applied in March but had to redo his entire application as the limit was 1,000 characters and not 1,000 words.
A couple of months later, Nott had a short virtual interview with coordinators of the council and found out a month later he’d been accepted as a member.
“I was quite happy,” stated Nott when asked how he felt about being on the council. “The week I got the position, I also had just finished all my finals and I did great on those. Then I found out I got a summer job at the Redcliff Museum, so it was kind of a great week.”
In mid-October, Nott will join other members of the Youth Council in Edmonton for a weekend to discuss education.
“We give our ideas and listen to the ideas of the Minister,” Nott explained.
His mother will drive him up for the first meeting but for the second one in May next year, Notts thinks he’ll fly up. In February, the council meets virtually for a meeting.
Nott says his dream is to attend Harvard Medical School because it is the most famous. However, he said that if his choices of post-secondary are between Calgary and Edmonton, he will choose the one with the better sports team but says he could probably suffer through the Edmonton Oilers for a while if he had to.
Apart from his regular school curriculum, which includes Advanced Placement Math and Language Arts, Nott is involved in drama and choir.
Monsignor McCoy is putting on “Something Rotten” this year and Nott is playing King Henry VIII.
