Hat man charged after pointing BB gun at neighbour

A Medicine Hat man is alleged to have pointed what turned out to be a BB gun at a neighbour on Sunday, causing local police to briefly lock down a southeast city neighbourhood.

Medicine Hat police say they were called to Cooper Road on Sunday morning after receiving a report that man pointed a handgun during a disagreement. That led them to surround a house and tell others in the area to remain indoors.

After “some negotiation” the suspect came out of the residence and was taken into custody. A black pellet gun and holster were located during a search, according to police, who charged Dennis Lecaine, 44, with possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, uttering threats and pointing a firearms.

He was released from custody and is due to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Oct. 5.
