jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb Connaught Golf Club is wrapping up a busy couple-week stretch with its flagship tournament of the year. A week after hosting the PGA of Canada Senior Men’s championships, Connaught is hosting the 89th annual Southeastern tournament this weekend. Connaught CPGA pro Brian Oliphant said they are excited for the weekend tournament. “It’s a great weekend weather wise, we have a full field, we’re pretty excited,” Oliphant said. “Biggest field we’ve had in many, many years.” Oliphant said the tournament class of 128 golfers is the largest they’ve had in 10 years or more and said they’ve had numerous people say they were coming back to golf after a few years away due to COVID. “Golf is just starting to boom again and the last three or so people are really into golf,” Oliphant said. “We have people that haven’t travelled down here the last couple of years because of COVID.” The tournament gets underway Saturday and wraps up on Labour Day Monday. 9
