Weather conditions remain favourable for construction and maintenance projects taking place throughout the city, some of which are scheduled to continue into September.
Echo Dale Regional Park
Clean-up efforts continue at Echo Dale Regional Park, however many park amenities have now reopened to the public; including the swim lake, concession, farm, boat launch, trails and, most recently, the park’s campground and off-leash area.
The park was unexpectedly closed due to damage sustained during the July 18 storm and tornado. Staged reopening began July 29 and is expected to continue after summer operations conclude, with the city stating “significant hazards remain” in the park, particularly in the picnic areas east of the boat lake.
The boat lake remains closed to watercrafts, but is open for fishing. The city asks visitors obey all signs and refrain from entering construction areas.
The park will close earlier than normal this year, with the final day of summer operations scheduled for Aug. 28.
Allowance Avenue
A new provisional conclusion date has been set for the Allowance Ave. water, sewer and storm infrastructure upgrade project.
The project, which affects the area of Allowance between Ross Street and Balmoral Street, began June 6 and was expected to conclude in early July. However the discovery of unmarked infrastructure and infrastructure incorrectly documented in city records has forced extension of the project until Aug. 26 at earliest, city officials confirmed. The affected portion of Allowance Ave. will remain closed until that date, weather dependent.
Carry Drive
While Allowance construction is facing setbacks, road rehabilitation on Carry Drive remains on schedule as the project enters the third of four stages.
Construction began on July 5 and spanned from the intersections of Crestwood Drive to Cuyler Road. Construction moved into stage two on Aug. 15, impacting the stretch of road from Cuyler Road to Carter Cres. Now in stage three, construction extends from Carter to Ross Glen Drive, with motorists detouring onto Southview Drive and Cameron Road, before returning to Carry Drive.
The fourth and final stage of the project is expected to begin in early September and conclude by the end of the month.
Saamis Archaeological Trail
Also continuing into September is rehabilitation work on the Saamis Archaeological Trail.
Work began Monday to replace a section of trail and reinforce two trail bridges. The trail, and access to the trail from Kin Coulee and Southview Drive, will be closed until work concludes.
