The Medicine Hat Tigers announced a trade Monday afternoon. The Tigers traded forward prospect Diego Buttazzoni to the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for two conditional draft picks, a 2024 second-round pick and a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick. Immediately after the trade, the Winterhawks announced they had signed the Langley B.C. product to a standard player agreement and said the 16-year-old will be reporting to training camp ahead of the 2022-23 season. Buttazzoni was selected by the Tigers 37th overall in the 2021 WHL prospects draft. In May Buttazzoni signed a deal to play for the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express after spending the 2021-22 season with the CSSHL’s U18 Burnaby Winter Club, the BCHL’s Alberni Valley Bulldogs and the Express. “Diego is a good young player,” Tigers general manager and head coach Willie Desjardins said in a media release Monday. “We wish Diego and his family all the best in his career.” 6
