1937 – MABEL SCHAFER – 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Mabel Inez Schafer announce her passing on Saturday, July 23, 2022, beloved wife of the late Emanuel Schafer who passed away on February 22, 2000. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lyle (Annemari) and Arlen (Sheila); four grandchildren, Anita (Kelly) Herter and their children, Talyssa and Kierra; Allan Schafer, Perry (Michelle) Schafer and their children Chet, Dawson and Nolan; Candice (Randy) Hintz and their children, Hunter and Chase; one brother, Melvin (Gloria) Walker; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Schafer and Shirley Winkler as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Martha Walker; her infant daughter, Roxane on December 1, 1964; her parents-in-law, Alexander and Matilda Schafer; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Schafer, Rosie (Adam) Rieder, Bill (Rose) Schafer, Elizabeth (Andrew) Schile, Adam Schafer, Dan Schafer and Sally (Henry) Fischer. Mabel was born July 6, 1937, in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Ralph and Martha Walker. She grew up on a farm west of Hilda attending Mantz School about ½ a mile away from the farm. On November 3, 1955, she married Emanuel Schafer of Schuler. They moved to the former Ed LaPoint place east of Schuler and together began their farm life. They were joined by their sons Lyle (1956) and Arlen (1958). Mabel was a great cook, baker and kept an immaculate house. She always had a big garden, chickens and milk cows. She adored her grandchildren and had nicknames for each of them. Mabel and Emanuel semi-retired to Medicine Hat in March 1996. Her yard in the Hat was full of flowers. Mabel enjoyed going for coffee with her friends and shopping. She moved to Meadowlands and spent her final years at Riverview Long Term Care Centre. Her family would like to thank the caregivers for the great care Mabel received at both places. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. The service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the Youtube page for future viewing. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. 1957 ~ SHERRY ELIZARDO ~ 2022
Sherry Lynne Elizardo of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Walter Elizardo, passed away on Thursday, July 21st, 2022, at the age of 65 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lindsay (Jay) Patton and Colin Elizardo; grandchildren, Wyatt Patton and Reid Patton; brother, Corey (Holli) Friesz; sister, Pam (Glen) Klaiber; sister-in-law, Barb Friesz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Tena Friesz; daughter, Tina Maria Elizardo and brother, Rick Friesz. Sherry was born and raised in Medicine Hat, where she met her husband, Walter and developed many lifelong friendships. Sherry cherished Sunday family suppers with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and camping in the summer months. Sherry found great enjoyment in working in recreation at the Good Samaritan, where she continued to work until her passing. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Thursday, July 28th, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL. DOCKTER, Jake
August 2, 1934 to July 13, 2022
Jake Dockter passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2022 at the age of 87 years. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts. Jake will be lovingly remembered by Elaine his wife of 58 years, his son Darren, his daughter Ila (Gene) and his grandchildren Brenna, Abra (Michael), Jared, and Mae. Jake is also survived by his sister Edna (Laurie); his brother and sister in-laws Gordon (Arlie), Jim (Jackie) and Dorothy (Norm); nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his parents Christian and Katherina; his sisters Eva and Frieda and infant brother John, and infant granddaughter Nadine.
Dad said, "I have had a good life, and many jobs and cars." A highlight in his retirement years was spending 27 winters in Arizona. Jake enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing pool, fishing, camping and tackling just about any kind of project. Jake was an innovator, creator and thinker. He will also be remembered for his kindness and generous spirit. Jake's life touched so many people.
The family of Jake would like to thank Olds Home Care and our palliative care givers Deana, Debbie, and Dr. Wielenga for the warm and exceptional care they gave.
The family will be celebrating Jake's life on August 2nd, or as Dad called it, "his party". Donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance in Jake's memory.
RAYMOND CALLIN
1930 ~ 2022
Raymond Alvin Callin passed away at the Good Samaritan Southridge Village in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his sons, Kelvin and Timothy (Sandy); grandchildren, Samantha (Drew) Kuhn and their son, Archer, Patrick (partner Chas) as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends. Ray was born and raised in Sibbald, Alberta on a farm and then moved into town where he worked for the airforce base to Alsask, Saskatchewan. Ray moved to Medicine Hat almost 18 years ago where he lived with Russell Scherer and joined him playing guitar for the last 12 – 14 years in many Senior homes and other venues. In the last three years, they joined Laurie Brake and Leviena Klassen and together, blessed many seniors with their gift of music. A Graveside Service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet inside the cemetery gates between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at
