Rattlers name soccer/futsal head coach

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on July 21, 2022.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers have found a bench boss for their soccer and futsal programs.

The Rattlers announced Wednesday that, in partnership with the Medicine Hat Soccer Association and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, they’ve hired Sam Heap as the soccer/futsal coach ahead of the 2022 fall soccer season.

Heap, who will be working with Rattlers associate coach Damir Omerovic at MHC, has previously coached with the Vancouver Whitecaps for seven years, taking on roles in Cranbrook, B.C. and Lethbridge. He spent some time in his home of England working with Blackburn Rovers Football Club as their regional talent manager and now rejoins the club to take on this exciting opportunity in Medicine Hat.

Heap will also serve as the MHSA technical director.

Terry Ballard, manager of athletics and recreation at MHC said, “Medicine Hat College Rattlers Athletics is very happy to continue our partnership with the Medicine Hat Soccer Association, by working with them in providing a high level coaching staff for our Rattlers men’s and women’s soccer and futsal programs. In addition, we are excited to welcome the expertise coming from the Vancouver Whitecaps association.”

The Rattlers say Heap has his CSA A license and FA Level 2 certification and is looking forward to implementing a long-term success plan for the area.
