Lawyers for four out of five individuals charged in relation to a one-year-old murder case appeared in Lethbridge provincial court Wednesday to discuss their matters.
The lawyers representing Miranda Turuk, Randy Giroux, Richard Lavell and Edward Goodrich appeared in court Wednesday to discuss their clients’ matters, but were asked by the Crown to adjourn them to July 25.
Provincial Crown prosecutor S. Campbell advised the lawyers that Mr. Zelmer and Mr. Fox are the assigned Crowns to their matters, and she had information about their intention to have a replacement information to join all of the accused with the appropriate charges.
“Mr. Zelmer and Mr. Fox are working on that, and their anticipation is to have each of those five individuals on July 25 to transfer process at that time,” said Campbell.
Calgary lawyers S. Kothari and K. Lancee, who represented Turuk and Giroux, respectively, wanted to adjourn their matters to Aug. 4 to review disclosure, but agreed to appear in court on July 25 to have all the matters together as suggested by the Crown.
The five individuals are accused in the death of Lane Tailfeathers of Fort Macleod, who was reported missing on June 23, 2021. A month later Tailfeather’s remains were found in a remote area near Crowsnest Pass. RCMP investigators determined the 35-year-old man was killed in Fort Macleod between June 20 and 21 of last year.
Richard Lavell, 43, Miranda Turuk, 28, and Randy Giroux, 40, are charged with second-degree murder.
Toth and Edward Goodrich, 51, are charged with accessory after the fact to murder and interfering with a dead body.
Toth has previously been released on bail and her matter was not in court Wednesday.
