Three royal hopefuls are vying for the titles of Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Queen and Princess, as the annual Rodeo Royalty Competition kicks off this week. Competitors Shaylyn Hunt, Kearra Borthwick and Caitlin Watson are excited to connect with Hatters and showcase both their rodeo and community ambassadorial skills, through a variety of events taking place over the week. The four-day competition kicks of Wednesday, but public events run from Thursday to Saturday, beginning with the Horsemanship Showcase, held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Stampede’s grandstand. A monetary or non-perishable food item donation to the Root Cellar is required in lieu of an entry fee. The Public Speaking event and buffet dinner will be held Friday in the Stampede’s Cypress Centre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and speeches begin at 6. Tickets are required and can be purchased at the Stampede office. The Fashion Show portion of the competition rounds out the week. The show takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Cypress Centre. Show attendees can also enjoy refreshments, door prizes, draws and raffles. Entrance by donation to the Stampede Royalty Scholarship Fund. Competitors have a short break to rest and enjoy the Stampede before the winners are announced and crowned on July 29, during the Friday Night Rodeo. 7
