Upcoming events surrounding the Hat

Bow Island

Bow Island Days returns and kicks off on Thursday, July 14 with a cribbage tournament at the Golden Age Centre.

Friday, July 15 there will be a lunch outside Island Furniture, bouncy castles, used book sale, a market, face painting, axe throwing, a BBQ supper, a family dance and the night ends with a youth dance.

Saturday, July 16 will start with a pancake breakfast put on by the Bow Island Fire Department outside the Legion from 7-10 a.m. The parade, first one in 10 years, will commence at 11 a.m. A free lunch will be served by Integra Tire and Fortis at Centennial Park. At 2 p.m. the grand opening of the Kale Porteous Memorial Splash Park takes place. A car show will be on all day and the evening has a barbecue supper by the Grace Christian Fellowship at the Legion. An adults only street dance featuring Blind Monkey and a drive-in movie round out the evening.

July 19-21 is the Pivot Country Fair takes place and is a chance for participants of all ages in the community to showcase their creative talents.

Dunmore

On Aug. 20 Dunmore Days starts with a pancake breakfast from 9-11 a.m. with daytime events, including face painting, treasure hunt, bike parade and car show, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music will be provided by First Degree at Rusty’s Roadhouse from 7-11 p.m.

Elkwater

July 1 sees Canada Day celebrations with face painting and bike decorating followed by a parade participants can walk or ride in. Refreshments and cake will follow at the Learning Centre.

July 16 is Parks Day, a national celebration of parks across Canada for the 85th anniversary. There will be hotdogs, juice and cake at the Learning Centre. All regularly scheduled interpretive programs will be free for the day. At the Community Centre there will be a craft market during the day, a barbecue ($5), and bingo at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks along the shore of Elkwater Lake will start at 10:15 p.m.

Irvine

Aug. 12-14 will be an Irvine Western Spirit Day with many events going on around the community. Irvine School will be holding Open Form days during the same weekend.

On the Labour Day long weekend there 20 Mile Post Days takes place. An annual event that include a pancake breakfast, parade, craft fair, bench show, Cowboy Church and a rodeo.

Schuler

The annual Rust and Shine in Schuler will be held in September, dates and details are not yet available.

Taber

The Taber Tuff 25/12.5 takes place on July 9. Described as a baby ultra run through the coulees of Taber.

July 16 will see the Oldman Mayhem by Trail 77. A four-hour mountain bike race starting at 9 a.m. Registration includes the race, a meal, prizes and a party. A no-fee kid’s race will follow the main event. Register at tabertrail77.ca

Vauxhall

July 1-2 Canada Day celebrations start on Friday with a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m., a parade at 11 a.m., Co-op sponsored barbecue at noon, demolition derby at 1 p.m., a spurs game at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 11 p.m. On Saturday there will be a Western Tractor sponsored breakfast from 9-11 a.m. During the day will be a show and shine, youth talent stage and youth carnival. A meal, pre-sold tickets only, starts at 4:30 p.m. and a cabaret/concert at 7:30 p.m. ends the day.

Walsh

Celebrate Cypress County will be happening on July 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walsh Welcome Centre. The HALO helicopter will be onsite, along with food trucks, games and much more.
