A Brooks man has been charged with homicide after a woman in that city was found dead by RCMP officers.

Mounties with the Brooks detachment were called to an apartment shortly before noon on Wednesday after a response that a female was unresponsive.

They found that 30-year-old Tamara Debbis Soosay, of Brooks, was dead.

A 35-year-old man, Mat Bangoang Choap, also of Brooks was charged with second-degree murder. He is in custody and next appears in court on Monday in Medicine Hat provincial court.

Rural theft warning

RCMP detachments in Redcliff and Bow Island are seeing a spike in break and enters in rural business areas and are alerting property owners to be aware.

Four incidents resulting in stolen fuel, tools and vehicles have been recorded since June 18 in the counties of Cypress and Forty Mile. Investigations are ongoing and three of four stolen vehicles have been recovered, but no arrests have been made.

Mounties say they are putting additional resources to bear, and telling business owners to report suspicious activity to police immediately via 9-1-1 in necessary. Anyone with pertinent information about the break-ins should contact the Bow Island or Redcliff detachments at non-emergency lines 403-545-2100 or 403-548-2222, respectively.
