Hat boxing pillar to be inducted to Sports Wall of Fame this month

The Medicine Hat Sports Wall of Fame will be adding another member this month. The city announced Thursday the late William Lauder will be inducted on May 26 during a ceremony at the Big Marble Go Centre. In their press release the city says, “Lauder was instrumental in the development of the Medicine Hat Boxing Club. He loved boxing and was dedicated to the betterment of the sport in the Medicine Hat area. He trained anyone with an interest in boxing, often supplying equipment and training at no cost and soon was known as the ‘Father of Boxing’ in the community.” Lauder follows the late Bill Page, a fellow boxing fixture in Medicine Hat who helped start up the Medicine Hat Boxing Club in 1975 and was inducted to the Sports Wall of Fame in Dec. 2021. The Sports Wall of Fame ceremony, to begin at 7 p.m., will be open to the public. 6-5
