Three people are dead after what police initially believe is a murder-suicide at a rural home near Brooks on the weekend, RCMP officials stated Sunday afternoon.

Police say that a man returned home at about 8 p.m. on Saturday night to find the body of a 29-year-old woman and his eight-month-old daughter in the home.

A search of the property by police found the another body, that of a male, nearby.

No personal information on that person was released other than the fact police had identified him as a “sibling” of the dead women and initially believe he died as the result of a self-inflicted wound.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and community of the victims,” said Staff Sergeant Erick Youngstrom, of the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

We will be continuing to investigate and seeking to determine what took place.”

Authorities believe there is no risk to the public. Autopsies are scheduled to take place on Tuesday May 10.
